This is my Doom level I drew for my son to create in Doom Builder 2 (he can embellish). He called it a troll level and seemed suitably impressed with my effort. I represented the Cyberdemon as a bum because that chap has not skipped glute day.

My son asked me to design a Doom map for him to make in Doom Builder. Cannot wait to see that finished level!

Made myself a 90s music playlist to work to this week and I still have some visceral reactions to certain songs that I listened to as a teen. It's taken me years to listen The Bends by Radiohead again without certain teen memories making me want to implode with cringe.

Little shout-out for this extremely fun book I edited, which is out on 29th Jan. Create Your Own Comics was written by @nedhartley.com and illustrated by Alex Lopez, and is packed with drawing tips, character inspiration and story ideas. As a big comic fan it was a real joy to work on this project.

I did my tax return today and although every year I proclaim that I will do the next one in April, will no doubt do it at exactly this time next year too.

Watched the new Running Man. Actually quite enjoyable and I loved Michael Cera and his zines.

29 years ago today, Homer Simpson had an epic chili pepper-induced hallucination. “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer” first aired January 5, 1997. Most of the sequence was animated completely by David Silverman as he wanted it to look exactly as he had imagined it.

Son has been using Doom Builder 2 for about 4 weeks and already knows how to do everything. He's currently making levels from drawings he made months ago and creating his own Doom game. I never get tired of seeing what he can do and a day never goes by where I'm not stupidly proud of him.

I've spent the last 2 weeks drawing a graphic novel while watching seasons 2-9 of The Simpsons. It has been very nice.

It's the national year of reading in the uk in 2026. Instead of asking "why don't kids read any more", ask "how can I help them find the stories (and non fic) they will fall in love with". Less "get off my lawn whippersnappers" and more "come, sit on the lawn, here's a comic".

2025 was the year that I got really into shackets. Good art stuff happened too but I've been enjoying shackets a lot.

genAI is the devil. It's the enemy of art. If you use it in ANY part of your process, not only do you fuck over the environment, and fuck over your fellow artists, you are cheating yourself of everything that makes art worth doing.

We went to the arcade today and my son immediately won the 1000 ticket jackpot on one of the games.

Son has had a lovely Christmas so far. One of his favourite gifts? The secondhand Doom 2 strategy guide from 1994 that I managed to find. He's utterly delighted by it (and using it while he plays).

Things have been very busy this year but I feel like I can finally relax a bit from this week. I'll mostly be working on Cowboy Koala, my first original GN series (which I'll hopefully be able to talk about a bit more soon), and also Squid Bits, which feels really nice.

Spent some of today helping my son set up Doom Builder 2. He's been drawing maps he wants to make for months and it's insane how quickly he's picking it up.

Got my son the Doom games for his laptop and he's ecstatic to be able to play the Simpsons mod. Next up is a level editor...

One thing I love about having lots of drawing to do is that I can just sit and watch films all day while I do it. Today it's Ghost followed by The Fugitive, two films I possibly watch way too regularly.

Plush Cacodemon progress! More horns to add plus the back three segments to make it a ball but so far our slightly ramshackle plan has worked out! Son has sewn a good 80% of this (I take over for the tricky bits) and is having a great time making it!

Watching Back to the Future 2 and sewing with my son, showing him how to make a plushie. I used to make tons of soft toys when I was a kid so this is a nice thing to share with him.

Good Boy is a great horror film and well worth a watch. Definitely one of my favourites of this year.

Bring Her Back is a fantastic horror film. Very hard to watch in places but amazing performances and atmosphere. Talk To Me is one of my favourite recent horror films too and I can't wait to see what the writer/directors do next.
