I ALSO think if we want people to stick around and keep making stuff we could do with ten times fewer posts about how everyone... does this one thing badly/ there's not enough of/ why do we always x instead of y-- 🙃 Kills creativity to make people feel like they can't risk getting it 'wrong'.

PSA: Bluesky's new auto-tagging moderation stuff is a disaster. Disable it. Go into Settings on the Bluesky site and enable adult content and set everything to Warn at most, which makes posts opt-in. Hide just vanishes posts. Then go into Advanced/Bluesky Mod Service and do the same on everything.

If the commercial version of this software had that baked in, I think that would be pretty fine, actually. (Make it "can't open emails before 0800".)

OPINION: People get confused about "high" stakes in writing (fiction). We can argue about whether "blow up the world" is overdone or "bake a cupcake" is nothingburger. For *characters*, the metric is "HOW FAR will they go on behalf of those stakes," or "how well has the *author* convinced us" etc.

Confidential to the folks who think "Golden Age" SF/F writers would be sad about current SF/F writers' lack of excitement over "AI": Why would you think the generation of writers who founded SFWA to defend the rights of working SF/F writers would somehow be cool with the plagiarism machine?
