Good literary translation requires understanding (language, culture, genre--on both sides of the translation) and an ability to write well. "AI" can't do that. There are no shortcuts. Treat your work and foreign language readers with the respect they deserve. You won't fool anyone with this.

Hmm, I should specify that it's *me* who's rambling in places with my review. The authors here do allow themselves quite a few asides for their characters to ponder history and broader conflicts, but after some consideration, I think it's all relevant and quite in-character.

Just wrote a review of @brynhammond.bsky.social and @draq.bsky.social's recent novellas. Rambling in places, perhaps? But I think these two are genuinely on to something when it comes to writing about steppe nomads and others who've been demeaned and dismissed in mainstream histories.
