I do feel the obvious way to ensure HS2 got built in its entirety was to start in Manchester and work towards London, rather than the other way around tbh

The same sort of thing happens with Scots, but with more oppression. In Fraserburgh 60% of people reported they speak or read Scots. Out of the 700 books acquired by Fraserburgh library in the last six months, just one is listed as being written in Scots.

In very specific terms, a quarter of taxpayers in Islay said they spoke Gaelic and the librarians decided to ignore their linguistic preferences and disproportionately spend their budget on English language books. We can see specifically which books have been acquired and they're all English.

The Isla of Islay in Argyle and Bute has about 500 Gaelic speaking households according to the census, making up a quarter of the population, they are served by a mobile library carrying 2,217 books of which just 19 are Gaelic.

As far as I can tell, still only a handful of ships are making it through Hormuz, and reserves are still being depleted to cope. There has been various mitigations including demand destruction in Asia. But the crunch all the oil guys were talking about must still be on the way? I think?

this wouldn’t work legally because a President has no authority to remove a Supreme Court justice. however the President could instead simply drone strike them. it sounds like i’m being snarky but as a result of the immunity decision this is the actual law.

I saw someone say neoliberalism is a leftist fantasy or similar because welfare spending has gone up and taxes as a share of GDP have held pretty steady. I don't want to get into a back-and-forth with an aggro-looking person. But this is fractally wrong.

When you see outrage from the US about EU heat excess deaths calculations it's worth remembered that there is no equivalent data for the USA at all. You can't compare deaths for the same weather, and the USA does not do heatwave excess death calculations or even record secondary causes from heat.

The graph that went viral recently was comparing ICD-10 coded individual causes of death from heat in the USA, with gun deaths, and with excess deaths in Europe during heatwaves, which is a completely bogus comparison and is to blame for a lot of the shouting here recently.
