When people post "nobody uses the cycle lanes" on Glasgow City Council facebook posts, I have started replying "Oh you should visit Glasgow lots of people use them here," and not one has managed a comeback yet. My theory is most of them live outside the city and spend their weekends at Braehead.

I take exception to “driving standards improving”, having cycled regularly for well over a decade now, they‘re noticeably worse than ever. That perception, amongst other barriers, plays a huge part in why lots of women would like to cycle, but won’t because it’s not safe.

Good morning as a global bond rout is underway. The UK fairing the worst at 5.16% with the US ten-year trading at 4.56%. It's based on fears of a shift higher in inflation and interest rate regimes. Unsustainable fiscal paths in the UK & US are driving the cost of capital higher.

like, I don't begrudge people trying, and there are certainly various moments where IP law has served to get people who have been unfairly ripped off paid, but the history of how IP law came to be, who it was designed to benefit, and who it has in fact benefited is... not auspicious.

I am very proud of how inclusive the franchise is here... However, there are a few thousand people in our prisons who are not eligible to vote and a few thousand in same prisons who are. MSPs heard evidence to expand the franchise but decided it too politically unpalatable to let all prisoners vote.

One reason I push back sometimes on fellow left wing campaigners leaning into the "Glasgow is a bomb site" stuff - there's a whole "[CITY] has fallen" industry out there and it is very reactionary. We have to be able to talk about the good government can do.

Think there are a lot of policy wonks who need to grapple with the fact that reactionary rhetoric can cause widespread harm in a way that doesn't require an actual policy basis per se. You don't need to legislate an actual bathroom ban if you have ministers publicly suggesting there already is one.

Speaking from the UK, we *are* going to end up cutting fuel duty as the crisis intensifies. I don't think it is worth environmentalists getting too worked up about. The price of petrol will soar anyway - the duty cut will help consumers a little in competing for supply internationally.
