Even though they'll probably never be seen, there's a huge dopamine rush in finding the perfect earrings for a costume.

Because they refuse to let go of this world, because they have been conditioned to see themselves as experts on all things, they can NEVER be the architect of the new world. They lack the capacity to transform the situation of oppression and liberate themselves from the ways it dehumanizes them.

Insofar as this is the case, these would be converts to the cause of the oppressed (which is really just fighting fascists, tbh) approach their solidarity with hesitance and spring upon any opportunity to demonstrate that they know better how to achieve liberation than the oppressed.

What we're seeing in the "don't sign up for protests" discourse is what Paulo Freire described as the convert's failure to trust the knowledge of the oppressed. As the convert tries to stand in solidarity with the oppressed, they refuse to let go of a world where they were the authority by default.

Just block anyone who tells you to block anyone who says not to sign up for protest email lists. This whole debate is an excellent filtering mechanism for feed hygiene.

If the chair of the NY Democratic Party can't bring himself to endorse the candidate who won the Democratic primary by double digits to represent half the state, he should resign.

Why can't good people ever fall up like this?

This is the biggest attack on free speech since the McCarthy era but it also has significantly less popular consensus behind it than the second Red Scare. It's being done on behalf of a minority faction led by the most unpopular president in modern history. Organizing against this can win.

If you're spiraling, please take a breath. Try not to fall into despair & lose hope. Fascists want that. A disengaged, silent populace is easier to bulldoze. What's one thing you can do right now? Write ABC a letter? Call your Reps? Donate to PBS? Cancel Disney? *Every* small act matters.

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.

The free speech crowd never cared about free speech. They only cared about silencing YOU.
