I think I know what I like about Zohran Mamdani’s outreach. Every couple of days I always hear about something actionable and exciting that he’s doing. It makes me feel hopeful.

Something has gone really wrong with governance in the Puget Sound region when even extremely popular things like schools are threatened with closure, or strongly supported rail expansion projects are threatened with delays to the 2050s, or beyond, or indefinitely.

Abolish ICE. Why would anybody want to come to a place where they can be whisked away to a concentration camp?

It’s setting up the agency to fail a ballot measure when they inevitably have to do so in 5-10 years because they haven’t fixed the fundamental problems that led to this mess. …when a “reform and deliver” ballot measure could probably pass within the next 1-2 years if they actually did the work.

Only 7% of the nearly 18,000 people who filled out this survey said that delaying or cancelling projects should be the first thing that Sound Transit considers to rebalance the ST3 plan. 74% ranked it dead last. Securing new state and federal funding was the #1 response.

Dave Somers and Dow Constantine keep saying projects will be built later and not “deferred”. I thought to “defer” means to do something later? 🧐

This is a pretty big slap in the face to King County. No dates attached effectively amounts to cancelation for Ballard. Look no further than Graham St and Boeing Access Road which were supposed in ST1 and supposed to be built by 2005 and are still being pushed off indefinitely!

Imagine you voted to ride a train. You paid to ride a train. You're on the train. Suddenly the operator says the train will stop; only you have to disembark. "Just wait there on the platform, maybe we'll come back for you," they say. That's what Sound Transit board chair Dave Somers just proposed.

This is stupid and offensive. They think voters have no reading comprehension and will see Ballard and Graham in not the “deferred” bucket and call it a win. They’re saying the same thing but just not using the word “deferred” for those stations.

Sound Transit built massive parking garages, subsidized by all of us, and made them free. Obviously they filled up. Then ST went half measures but STILL priced most spaces at $0. Even this minuscule toll makes car-brained suburbanites incandescent. They want 100% car subsidies, all the time.

My main concern with ST3 phasing is that we're between a rock and a hard place because of costly delays. Phasing is another delay albeit a planned one. With costs rising with time, I fear we might never be able to afford to build out phases left for the future.

I'm concerned that maintaining the camera infrastructure makes it so that any future officials who want to surveil can privately hit ON. My instinct is burn it all down. My compromise is to physically remove the cameras and keep them in storage.
