if you're young and choosing art as a career because "well art is fun and i suck at everything else!!", identify all the secondary skills and soft skills that go into art careers (ie time and finance management, working in a team, etc) and hone those skills above all else

Friend was venting a bit about struggling with "moot perception" and I think in 2026 some of you need to regain control and agency of your spaces. Having the "what will my followers think" mindset is self-harming. It's your account, with your rules, and every follower is a guest. Don't forget that.

Your identity is not a brand. Your brand is a subset of your actions and personality and must always come second to authenticity. If you change who you are to more closely align to your "brand" you will lose yourself. It is better to lose followers than your soul

Practice what you LIKE TO DRAW. You don't have to master every single fundamental to have fantastic art. In fact you can "bullshit" your way through most of them with resources and clever workarounds when you need to. if you even want to.

You don't have to draw good to consider yourself as an artist. Art can come in many, many forms.

most importantly, have fun. if you genuinely hate drawing, you don’t have to do it. suffering is not part of the package. being frustrated can be, but if it provides you no joy, you can and should stop at any time.
