Thinking about game design this morning, and realizing that Tue majority of games I enjoy fall into one (or both) of two buckets: 1) tell a good story and have gameplay between story beats thats fun enough to be worth earning more story 2) do thing, get upgrades to be better at do thing, repeat

This is ESPECIALLY true for very large IPs, and FFXIV is a good example. There's SO MUCH STUFF in the game that you could actively hate half of it and still have tons to enjoy. There are certain parts of the game that I will never revisit because they make me angry. I still love it as a whole!

There's nothing quite like hitting Superbolide a split second AFTER the white mage hits you with Benediction. I miss that.
