Wet and windy on Dartmoor, Devon early this morning. This Cuckoo Cuculus canorus has just left the Meadow Pipit Anthus pratensis nest though it won't move far for a few days. They are very vulnerable to predation by Foxes and Crows at this stage so hope it survives.

A new one for me this week for #WildflowerHour Common Cudweed, in huge abundance in a Lincolnshire arable field margin. Thousands of saplings were planted here in January ‘25 unfortunately they are not doing so well, perhaps only 30% having survived.

The current stars among our #lawnflowers - Meadow Crane's-bill, Ox-eye Daisy, Meadow Buttercup and Yellow-rattle. Soon the spotlight will be on Common Knapweed, Lady's Bedstraw and Wild Parsnip... #wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social
