I picked up my 1st ever ebike the Sunday before Thanksgiving & immediately rode it 13 miles home (in protected bike lanes most of the way!) & up hills middle-aged, out-of-shape me could never get up on a regular bike. This ebike has been life changing.

Most planners I know are familiar with this playbook, and will also point out that democratically mandated public consultation processes are often manipulated to play into this, which is how we get watered down (or non existent) rather than transformative project outcomes.

You really notice the difference in air quality too, as more bicycles and fewer cars take to the streets. On trips to Paris in the last few years, I've noticed the air being so much more breathable and clear than it was in previous decades. And that's backed up by evidence.

I was at a conference where it was noted that many cities are not yet AV-Ready (autonomous vehicles). I thought this demand was so awful that I immediately renamed my book project: *** Bicycle Ready *** How city centers and retail businesses can avoid missing out on the transport revolution.

Two years ago, Montreal’s bike share stayed open over winter for the 1st time as a limited pilot project (150 of ~1,000 stations). Last year it expanded to 200 stations. This year it’s up to 234 stations, mainly in off-street locations that don’t disturb snow plowing/removal. See the progression!
