We installed solar panels on our house a few years ago when my kids were in high school. The panels were sized to cover our electricity usage at the time. Now that they've moved out, we're using 2/3rds of the electricity we previously did.

This is not Schrödinger's cat. In that thought experiment, the cat is in both states — it is both alive and dead — until it is observed. That's what makes quantum mechanics so weird. For oil, we simply don't know the future. It is not the case that oil price is both high and low until observed.

During their lifetime, today's college students will experience about 2°C of global-average warming. The warming between the last ice age and the present (pre-industrial) climate was 5-6°C. Thus, 2°C is about 35% of the warming since the last ice age, which radically changed the Earth's surface.
