Long story short I believe any effective action needs to understand your opponent and what they're actually playing the game/fighting for. And understanding their psychology/strategy helps with that.

I grew up in a dictatorship like this at home, the second generation after a true abusive narcissist (my grandfather), and my advice is if you aren’t in immediate danger, don’t be afraid. If you are in immediate danger, you’re in danger, act like it. If someone else is in danger, hide them.
