A stranger on Bluesky told me their Steam Deck experience was as slick and perfect as an Apple product and I envy them because it's a cool device but there hasn't been a day where I've used it and not had at least one crash, freeze, or required reboot, even when just playing verified games.

It's not a serious problem but every survival/crafting game I play, I go through the same process where I try to build a way too big and pretty initial house with the starting tools only to realize you're supposed to build a minimum shit hovel and then immediately develop better building options

Recommending the Steam Deck is weird because it's like, if you've come from only console gaming and you want to go outside verified games even a little, it's way more fiddly than you'd want to deal with. But if you've spent any time with PC gaming, it's WAY less fiddly than you'd expect.

Alright, the initial setup process for the Steamdeck was a nightmare and it's beyond fucked it's still that bad after all these years. That said... laying in bed playing Halo Reach at 60 FPS on a handheld? Pretty cool. And every Gamecube game I've tried on Emudeck has just... friggin'... worked.

It's done. After the 20th hard reset, the Steam Deck just booted up to the login screen instead of starting the update process again. Don't know why, but good riddance.

Entering hour 5 of trying to get past the initial Steam Deck setup, it is now a race to see if this attempt will complete before my phone overheats and shuts off from being used as a hotspot for too long.
