Playing a tabletop game is making an agreement. I think the scariest thing a game can do is make players feel like they have no choice but to break that agreement. I want a game that disorients and betrays its players - that promises one thing and delivers something much worse.

Glad to know I’m not the only one. Specifically, it’s the urge to *design another new game entirely* that gets its hooks in me regularly.

What I hope you're intuiting here (as I have intuited) is that *this* is how you make the journey in a fantasy game have the feeling of weight, of place, of history. It's about telling stories in your world rather than rolling random encounters for every X no. of turns you spend in the wilderness.
