Speaking about comics, we let websites kill print magazines, and then social media kill websites, and now social media is dying and there’s nothing to take its place. There’s just no hype for anything.

I will never stop banging this drum -- publishers (honestly anyone distributing creative work rn), need to try something new! bring back the atrophied part of their marketing brains that involves something other than "post through it"

Every day I am reminded on how and why book reviews in academic journals remain so important and so fiercely protected. It's not without its challenges but man, we have got to fix this for all of publishing. This is not sustainable and it is certainly not healthy.

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.
