On this day in 1972, Lester B. Pearson died. A Nobel Peace Prize recipient, he was Prime Minister from 1963 to 1968. A star hockey player, he was nearly the first Secretary General of the United Nations and once drank Nikita Khrushchev under the table. This is his story 🧵 1/12

Happy Tibb's Eve! Also known as Tipp's Eve and Tipsy Eve, it is a holiday to honour a fictional saint. The holiday found its way to Newfoundland from Britain and has slowly spread around Canada. This is the story! 🧵 1/7

On my old show Represent we had a guest who talked about their issues with RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER — how its message is screwy because Rudolph isn’t accepted until he’s proven “useful,” and how this is the same narrative we fall into with migrants and I’ve never looked at RUDOLPH the same tbh

I worked with textbooks for years. When I first started in the early aughts, by boss at the time had been in the business since the early 70s. He was told then that textbooks wouldn’t be around for much longer because of microfiche.

Got the Nuzzi book and listened for about 7 minutes. Between the writing, which I already knew wasn't going to be good, and her voice, which I found annoying (the breathy sexy thing), I couldn't do it.

I spent the last year or so of my grandmas life playing Yahtzee with her for money, both of us chain smoking, and she drink pints of brandy and I beer. It’s a good memory, but no way do I want to do that again with the racism and homophobia.
