The glowing pre-obits written about Guardiola would stand better to reason (greatest of his era? Probably), and to scrutiny were it not for the small matter of how that Man City was built. Whichever "legacy" he leaves behind will always come with an asterisk. It's a pity, but it's part of the story.

While I'm not sure of its specific applicability to this situation, the LotG does provide a foul pecking order, in which the referee ... "punishes the more serious offence, in terms of sanction, restart, physical severity and tactical impact, when more than one offence occurs at the same time".

My only regret about today is that it was a clear foul. Would’ve been funnier if they wrongly overturned a perfectly good goal.

Chelsea and Man City in the FA Cup final. No other English clubs have systematically ignored, bent or broken the rules like both have done. In terms of trophies won, no other English clubs have been as successful over the past decade and a half either. The moral of the story - is that there is none.

Play twice before City’s next game. Two home games, and can be 6 points up before City go away to Everton. With a decent goal difference built up, the pressure will be on City

Football's a game of very fine margins. If Havertz had put that header 6 inches lower. Or if Man City hadn't breached the rules 115 times without being sanctioned. So exciting. What a sport.

You can't celebrate the league's brutal competitiveness and then dismiss sustained title challenges as not good enough. Pick one. Second, and IMO this matters more, failure in elite sport is not losing. Luis Enrique said it. Many others have said versions of it.

find the Gyokeres analysis quite tiresome tbh. don’t think he’s very good. but he has been an ever present part of a side 6 clear in the league and top in the CL. whatever he’s doing obviously isn’t hurting *structurally and overall*.

I think part of the reason we don’t see nearly as much discussion of Maresca and Chelsea’s ill-discipline is because nobody actually sees them as title-contenders. It mattered when it was Arteta and Arsenal because the club and manager mattered.

Renowned DM Mikel Merino grabs a hat-trick for Spain
Morning. Welcome to a brand new week, and we’re starting with Mikel Merino who was on fire last night as Spain ran out 6-0 winners in Turkey. The Arsenal midfielder scored a really nice hat-trick to make it 6 goals in his last 7 international appearances, a pretty hot streak for someone who had scored […] The post Renowned DM Mikel Merino grabs a hat-trick for Spain appeared first on Arseblog ... an Arsenal blog.
