The more I think about the Slavia Prague game, the more I think Mikel got it wrong. With so many injuries, we should’ve prioritised one competition over the other. We can afford to drop points at this stage of the CL phase but you can never afford to drop points in the PL.

Had low expectations going into the game, they got even lower after we went 1-0 down. Think the inability to make any attacking substitutions really hurt us. Need to get some of the good lads healthy & quickly.

That would’ve been an eye opening 2nd half for the lads who don’t rate Gyokores. This generation of CF has broken people’s minds. Give me the bloke who doesn’t give a fuck about the ball and only wants to get in-behind. Those sorts of CF are worth there weight in gold…

A fair bit of game management going on here but the downgrade from Gyokores to Merino is extreme. Burnley look far more comfortable now they don’t have anyone running in behind and moving their CBs about.

Gyokores always looks livelier when he hasn’t played midweek. Looks more mobile, agile and hostile today.

Yep. 3-5-2 might be kryptonite for Mikel. We didn’t play it the same as United but lost too many 2nd balls and got out numbered in MF. Palace created fuck all but they always had an exit ball (just like United did) Something to work on. Still - 3 glorious points and a clean sheet 🔥

Very interested to see how Mikel sets us up today. I thought he got his tactics all wrong against United’s back 3, can’t afford to make the same mistakes against Palace.

Absolutely delighted with that result and performance but I’ve come away from the game very miffed about Eze…. I know about how good we are defensively, I know all I need to know about Zubi & Gyokores The one I want to know about is Eze, and I’m really underwhelmed so far.

And final point on the penalty. There is zero chance VAR reviewed that to see if Pope touched it. They reviewed it to see whether or not Gyokores dived or initiated contact. They were looking for a reason NOT to give it and they found one.

I’ve got zero issues losing at St James Park, none whatsoever. But let us come off the pitch knowing Newcastle beat us becuase they were better, or because Mikel got it all wrong. I hate not knowing the true outcome because the referee changed the course of the game.
