The Eze news has hit me a little like the Kai news did last season. The City game didn't bother me or give me any feelings of dread. Injury reports do.

This is some weird reporting, in very much a "don't cry for Arsenal" bit of framing. If Eze is out six weeks he will miss our CL QF tie (and half the SF if we advance), up to 56% of our remaining PL schedule (including the City match). Why try to make this sound less bad than it is?

To repeat: why do the pundits need to effectively make things up? We saw the match. We know how it went. We could see what went wrong (and what briefly went right). There’s no need to fabricate a timeline that didn’t exist, on top of what existed.

The world where Arteta made a mistake playing Kepa is the zero-sum world of sports, wins and losses. So it makes sense that people are taking him to task for it. We lost, and Kepa made an error. In the non-zero-sum world of managing weirdo athletes the question of "mistake?" is harder to answer.

Starting Kepa yesterday isn’t quite “hey why did we not do as well with our backup QB” level stuff but it’s also not not that.

Look, I’m happy to have to deal with this scenario should it eventually transpire. I can see a world where we lose at City and still win the league and the entire mainstream narrative becomes “is Arsenal really the best team?” I actually might enjoy that quite a bit.

I am going to be really bummed out if Kepa is our #1 goalie, especially if Raya isn’t hurt. I’d certainly reconsider what I think of the manager if he makes the change.
