because it's also a love letter to fandom, and specifically to fanworks. I don't remember who said it in the movie, but there was a part where someone said, "They're not looking for 👍 or 👎 [as in a film review], the reaction they're looking for is 🖖 [as in a connection with fellow fans]". +

And as someone who's made fanworks for 20+ years now, I really loved that way of summing up why we do what we do. Of course we want to make good art that we can be proud of, but the most important part is that the act of creating and sharing means something in and of itself. +

🎶 Oops I did it* again 🎶 *hit play on a movie, got maybe 3 minutes in, hit pause & then went into the kitchen to chop stuff, throw together a recipe, take out the compost, wash all the dishes, then come back to the movie about 45mins later

People can say it’s utopian or dreamy but it’s a fact that you have to believe new things are possible, fundamentally, in order to make them real. You have to make the choice to believe that more than this is possible & not be resigned to this being the way things have to be because it’s not at all.

So much specific advice online gets treated so generally and some ppl take massive offense and it's frustrating "you don't owe anyone anything" is GREAT advice for someone who feels guilty about everything and is surrounded by users Not so great for selfish assholes to justify themselves

"Write/draw for yourself" is great advice for people who second guess themselves & worry too much about whether other ppl will like the stuff they're writing But ppl hear it and think it means "You shouldn't want any praise or audience ever, and if u do ur selfish!" NO! Not how it's intended!
