Looking through stuff on Netflix is a pain. Unless you know exactly what you’re looking for. all these services obscure and make searching through catalogs more difficult. they’re trying to hide their catalog size, but it’s makes functionality worse. The redesign of Crunchyroll is a prime example.

RIP Tony Rayns, one of the few English-language critics who genuinely knew what they were talking about (most of the time) when it came to East Asian cinema, especially Hong Kong's.

I am extremely saddened by this passing. I always got excited for a Tony Rayns essay on a criterion or arrow release. Through his video essays I learned more about the people who worked behind the scenes on films for Shaw Brothers or Golden Harvest. And how these films came together

Saying we should all go back to physical media I think misses the point. I actually *like* buying games and movies digitally for a bunch of reasons. What we need is better consumer protections so the things we do buy digitally are actually owned and companies cant delete/revoke access!

even as a die-hard physical media guy, this is really how it should be some folks don't have the space for physical media but still want a large collection, and digital allows that (digital should also be across-the-board cheaper in addition to protecting your purchases)

I really want a digital consumer rights law. 1. Being able to sell your digital goods. 2. Ability to trade digital goods with friends or family. 3. Digital goods transferring to loved ones after death. 4. Digital goods being able to transfer to a different platform if the old one gets shut down

Yeah, it's 26 volumes across four series... but it's Kazuhiko Shimamoto & Yasuhiro Imagawa retelling the story of G Gundam with tons of new additions, including giving the rest of the Shuffle Alliance upgraded Gundams, a la God Gundam! It has a literal manga recreation of "Flying in the Sky"!

It's Disability Pride month next month, as well as the anniversary of the ADA, and the DOJ just issued a memo reinterpreting a long-standing right that disabled people have to live within their respective communities and homes.
