So the fun thing I've learned now that I have a working Single-8 projector. That Volume 3 Yamato film reel is actually the film from volume 1, which the seller wasn't selling. So at some point in time, they must have had volume 1 and accidentally swapped the films by accident. 😅

Based on this article, I've assembled a list of all the anime (that I'm aware of) that were published on TeD. Release dates are fuzzy, but it looks like some of the Calimero discs made it out for a 1973 test launch, followed by the rest in 1975.

Interesting eBay find of the now: Arabic-language Gendaizer VHS tapes from Egypt! Not sure exactly sure when they date to, but I think these Gamal Elleissi Films tapes the first Arabic anime home video release I’ve ever seen. ebay.us/m/A4XZaL

Cool thing of the now: Akira is one of only a handful of films to be released on S-VHS, and as far as I can tell, the only Japanese-market one. For those SKU aficionados out there, it’s the only Bandai title to have a BSES prefix (unless there’s another SVHS release out there I’m not aware of)

Got the 8mm projector running, gonna have to do some adjustments to the alignment. Unfortunately while the projector lists being able to play both Super8 and Single-8 reels, Idon't think it's equipped with an optical sound reader and only reads magnetic strip sound.

Discovery of the now: There are at least 2 different variants for the US Renditions release of Gunbuster Volumes 2 and 3. The earlier ones have white text and a blue logo on the spine, whereas the later ones switch to a black for both, and add a barcode to the back.

Your Museum crew is also putting on some popular panels at Sangawa Project next month including two Awesomely Bad shows!

And finally, a new player had arrived for the collection. We acquired some Japanese Single-8 film releases last year, but now we should have the means to play them now too with a fully working Sankyo Sound-500 projector! Pretty cool, huh?

The projector does power on and the motor and lamp run. Won't be able to test it for a few days cause the only thing missing from it was the take up reel. So waiting on some extra reels to arrive to see how some of the Single-8 films we have look.

So, fun fact. Tenchi Muyo! was the first title to be released in North America in a dual-audio format. The LaserDisc, which shipped in December 1993, included both the JP and English audio tracks, as well as English subtitles. It was priced at $31.46 USD.

Fresh off the slow boat from Japan, the tape has arrived! Need to run to an appointment this afternoon, so I haven’t chucked it in my VCR yet, but it does look like they’re dubbing entire scenes, at the very least. (The suspense is killing me!)
