It's a shame how many great series are just made unavailable to legally purchase a physical copy of. The third party market is way too rife with people fleecing exorbitant prices for out of print titles. It shouldn't be this way, but the powers that be are overall the absolute worst.

Gonna be a bit before they arrive, but an interesting assortment of items for the Museum will be arriving sometime within the next week. Also hoping to have another show announcement in the near future too.

How does a VHD player work tou might ask? Here's my Victor HD-9500, a late model VHD player, in action. Once the caddy is inserted for enough, the machine will grab the disc out in it's own tonthe platter. The stylis mechanism will move across the entire disc to read it.

I love this series of videos for so many reasons, and one of my favorite pieces is when some question I’ve had for years is just answered in passing. This time: why the Robotech LaserDiscs have both FHE and Streamline logos on the back.

The Universal Sony Australia anime releases have always looked so goofy to me, with their massive, sideways, word art katakana アニメコレクション logo, followed by a little tiny transliterated [anime collection] at the bottom because their audience doesn’t read Japanese…

Two laser discs in today of episode 2 of Giant Robo and the lsst two episodes of Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki, both still in shrinkwrap (minus a year on the plastic on the Tenchi one). And with this, I am done with getting the US laser discs of the Tenchi OVA.

Might as well include my own regular anime purchases too. Anyway, picked up some of Dailor Moon on bluray finally on a good sale. I know these sets aren't perfect (Toei gonna Toei) but better than nothing at all at least.

just to add my two cents about physical media - your favorite website, streamer, or online archive could vanish tomorrow due to any number of deliberate or accidental actions on the part of any number of people or organizations. Physical media? You have to destroy it YOURSELF

I think I’ve now seen proof of a rounded-slipped copy of Cyber City Oedo 808 in a blurry photo on a Japanese auction site (and of course I forgot to save it before the page went down) This almost certainly means another stealth re-release is out there. If you stumble across a copy, post pictures!

Speaking of Urban Vision, does anybody know the story behind the “American Anime” badge on some of their releases? Was it a separate company? Just a label? I can’t find any info on it.

I've made this mistake of trusting a wiki before with "VHD was advertised in National Geographic in 81/82". Looked through every issue from those years and nothing at all was there. Sam is going above in beyond in some wonderful research into the anime industry and fandom.

Bryan Lee O'Malley has revealed on Instagram that Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is officially getting a Blu-Ray! The series will be released on Blu-Ray on December 2nd! I'm very happy to see more stuff from Netflix get released on physical media. More of this please!

Got something exciting in the mail today: a copy of Captain Harlock V1 on VHS from FHE *in decent shape!* I believe this is a later print run, based on the MGM sticker on the back, and the use of a Disney style case inside instead of a flimsy plastic tray. Now to find V2… (Cyborg 009 VHS for scale)

There's a long unverified claim on the Wikipedia page for VHD that it had "numerous advertisements in 1981/1982 National Geographic magazines" and having now looked through every issue from those years, it's definitely false and I've removed it. Did find some other home video format ads from then.

Stuff like this is so frustrating to see, people who just buy things to flip will not see the light of Heaven. Incidentally, if for some reason you want to sell your Dirty Pair KS edition. I will buy it at the backer cost plus shipping, no more. Price gouging is what losers do.
