Obama may have run on a Hope slogan, but I've never felt like a national sense of Hope has ridden on anything so much as it's riding on Mamdani's NYC mayoral race. This isn't *really* about what he can achieve (that's very limited). It feels like a test of whether it's even possible to break free.

I saw someone call Ai a Thneed and I can't stop thinking about it. It's a PERFECT analogy. The Thneed was an all-purpose tool that didn't do anything really useful. It was a fad that did major damage to the environment to make the Onceler a billionare. It left no real lasting impact, only damage.

Sometimes, when my life feels regulated and under control, I doubt whether I actually have the serious mental illness I thought I had. And then something small happens that sends me into a spiral and I remember. Ah, yes. Well regulated, well medicated, high functioning, but still fucking unstable.
