Thinking about how often Jay Inslee showed up for Sound Transit groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, treating the expansion of the high capacity transit system in Puget Sound like the statewide issue that it is...and the fact that Bob Ferguson doesn't seem to hold the same view.

tonight I learned, from the Seattle Times' lawsuit alleging Seattle police violated state public records law and a settlement with the Times, that SPD rushed to respond to a KOMO records request, providing documents in less than a month that a Times reporter had been waiting on for almost 2 years.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans. 🧵 1 of 9

We need to hold elected officials accountable for votes that go against their campaign rhetoric. See screenshot below from 2023 campaign season

Paul has been talking about the tax loophole that Seattle country clubs have been enjoying for a while now but WOW I did not know how big This is Broadmoor Golf Club. It's a gated right-wing enclave for the rich in Seattle. The golf course is 7 parcels, 122.2 acres. It's assessed at just $76k/ACRE!

We are just one day out from the Seattle local elections! Only 17.6% of King County voters and just under 20% of Seattle voters have returned their ballots. So far, only 1 in 17 young gen Z voters have voted, compared to more than 1 in 3 boomers. Don't forget to vote if you are eligible and want to.

During my 3 years living in Seattle without a car, my access to parks and nature was significantly constrained. Many of Seattle’s coastal parks are hard to reach by transit. So are the out-of-town hikes. We can do better to ensure everyone can enjoy the natural beauty of the PNW

Why have I not seen one Seattle news outlet localize what the Jimmy Kimmel thing means on the local level? Because it means a lot. Sinclair - the company that did this to him - owns KOMO. And they're bowing to the FCC so they can merge with Nextstar/TEGNA, which just bought KING 5.

While renters are "growth" that must be "mitigated" by requiring every part of the city to accept a fair share of them, house owners are "community" who deserve a veto over whether and how anyone else can live near them

If only the 2023 Seattle City Council close election results went the other way. Housing policy in this comp plan would be less status quo & more equitable with Ron Davis and Andrew Lewis instead of Rivera and Kettle. Davis lost by 235 votes. Lewis lost by 439 votes. Odd year elections must go.

We have a very good Public Disclosure Act in the state of Washington. SPD has ginned up a way to violate the law, which both violates the intent and letter of the PDA and discourages public records requests, which SPD's communications office often directs me to file instead of answering questions.

Man struck from behind while biking on section of Lake Washington Blvd where city dropped planned safety upgrades
Photo from Bradley Hawkins. If you've ever seen someone biking around town pulling a bright yellow cello case in a bike trailer, you've seen Bradley Hawkins. Even without his cello, he's a self-identified "die-hard bicycle dude" who has been biking pretty much everywhere for a long time. But all that could have easily come to an end last week when someone driving a Hyundai Elantra ran into him from behind while he was biking on Lake Washington Boulevard on a section of road where…

SPD has effectively figured out a way to keep records secret from the public: First, refuse to give simple information like police reports to certain members of the media, telling them "do a PDR." Then, refuse to work on more than one request at a time, and take forever to respond.
