The council committee has approved a new comprehensive plan for growth. It likely needs more environmental review, so likely won't get a final vote until later this fall. The council now needs to take up its final zoning bill.

I'll say that this comp plan discussion is by far the most overt example of a district-based city council leading to factionalism I've seen, with each member claiming final authority over "their" district and Sara Nelson abstaining on controversial votes in deference to the district representatives

MLK Labor didn't take up a possible dual endorsement of Katie Wilson last night, presumably because backers didn't have the 2/3 vote threshold they would need. A pyrrhic victory for Harrell, though it could come back in September.

My sense is this motion for a dual endorsement is likely to be tabled until September. It's not clear that Wilson has the votes and MLK leadership has said it will only bring it to a vote once, so if Wilson's backers push for it and lose, that's that.

As @gramsofgnats.bsky.social reported, MLK Labor is hosting a meeting tomorrow that could end in a dual endorsement of Katie Wilson, though the math might be tight. If that happens, Teresa Mosqueda told me she'd make good on her policy of following the council and give Wilson her dual endorsement.

With just 800 ballots left to count in King County, the results are pretty well set: Wilson > Harrell by 9.5 points Foster > Nelson by 23 points Evans > Davison by 22.5 points Just about the worst case scenario if you're a City Hall moderate and a huge wind in the sails of the once-floundering left
