It is undeniable now that none of it was ever real. No policy position a Republican has ever spoken, no belief they have ever claimed about a philosophical stance, no value or ideal they have espoused has ever been true. Not one word. They have only ever believed in fourteen words.

Democrat leaders should be in Minnesota right now, standing side by side with Walz and Frey and the community. They need to show solidarity and a united front. They must say Abolish ICE. They won't but they should. Trump is going to unleash hell on that state.

This is the way. Any 2028 Dem candidates need to start saying that on Day One: (1) all ICE agents fired; (2) pensions/benefits defunded; (3) forced to pay backpay as restitution to victims; and (4) only way to avoid prison is to become a cooperating informant

this is all downstream of the idea that some americans are more real than others. it’s a manifestation of the basic and fundamental logic of authoritarian populism. we will not heal ourselves until we understand that this kind of thinking - and this kind of rhetoric - is anathema to any free society

If every Democrat voted NO on funding ICE, it would not have passed the House. But, 7 House Democrats voted to fund Trump's lawless, masked goons, so it passed. Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip his members to vote against ICE funding. Genuinely unforgivable.

yes, Dems are 100% ok with it. if they weren’t, they wouldn’t have voted for it dozens of times or tried to hit Republicans from the right for not being “serious about the border” during the 2024 election or be totally abdicate fighting against it now. but they did all that, they’re social fascists

As someone who spent the last 15 years working with aging brains & dementia, I can't stop thinking about this. It is gerontocracy: leaders who are substantially older than most of the adult population. When did we accept this? The new generations can't show up because the old generations never left.

kidnapping a 5 year old to bait his father and then shipping them thousands of miles away should put you in prison, yes, but it should also cause every friend and family member you have ever had to permanently reject you in disgrace, and if they don’t, they share your shame

A mad dipshit is going to invoke the Insurrection Act regardless and you are blaming us

We really need a fed law that makes it nearly impossible for federal law enforcement officers to dress like this. Not just the masks, all of it. And those who do cannot be dispatched absent some sort of statutorily-defined exigent circumstances, set at a high bar. No routine work like this. Ever.

I was in high school when ICE came into existence. I remember it happening. Anyone my age or older can remember a time before ICE, and it really wasn’t that different! It’s not a radical policy proposal because the department didn’t really change policy, just created a new culture of cruelty.

I live an hour outside Minneapolis and the local Facebook pages are all just conservatives bitching that their favorite cheap buffet restaurants don’t want their workers kidnapped. They feel entitled to treats and want the employees to suffer at the same time. It’s casual cruelty, nothing else.

There are people in Minnesota who are violating the law, and it's the people who are flash-banging babies, shooting people who pose no threat, and deploying tear gas against peaceful crowds. The way to end the violence in Minnesota is for ICE to stop committing violence against Minnesotans.

People don't want to accept that the primary reason that we have Trump today is that the previous administration completely failed. It should have never gotten to the point where it was in the so-called hands of the voters. It was already too late by then.

I come from the philosophical school of LeVar Burton’s Reading Rainbow. Literacy is connected to freedom and it’s connected to an inner dignity. I want everyone to have that. This is not about who reads the most books or whatever else. This is about extending the possibility of freedom.
