I describe it as such as a historian of disability because I want to remind scientists and the world that the history of science IS the history of eugenics, scientific racism and medical racism, and more. I’m not comforting them with the idea that it was a ‘pseudoscience.’ This is your history.

Science is a product and reflection of the society it's part of. Western science therefore has a history of misogyny, colonialism and racism. No-one should pretend otherwise.

It would've been reckless and inexcusable to cause generational damage by illegally defunding USAID, NIH, HHS, Dept of Edu, and so on just to reduce the deficit... ... but spending and the deficit are both higher than '22, '23, '24. It was all just harm for harm's sake. The cruelty was the point.

I just started this book, and have found more truth about caregiving in the first 20 pages than in anything else I’ve read over the last 10 years.

Scholars -- a friend was invited to be a reviewer for the NEH fellowship pgm. The invite says this yr "will focus on projects in American history and culture and Western civilization." Are people doing this or protesting or what? Do we have a collective plan?

It cannot be stressed enough how these Republicans don’t see government jobs as jobs at all. They see them as titles, no-show gigs where they can do whatever they want. That’s why they hated the people in those jobs before, they thought it was a scam because they don’t believe in doing the work.

The reality here is that universities would love to hire visible and capable conservative scholars. That they have to create separate centers, and then hire people who would never make it in an open search, underlines the fact that its not anti-conservative bias, its a lack of strong candidates.
