Oh sure you think Chuck Schumer is “caving” and “wants to ruin all the momentum” and “is horrible at politics” but what if I was to tell you that this old crazy man ran the idea by an imaginary married Irish American couple that exists only in his mind and they think it’s great politics

If any Dem is dumb or blinkered enough to say "let's stick it to health insurance CEOs by just having everyone pay cash out of pocket direct to docs and hospitals" then by god we deserve what will be coming.

Jonathan Karl of ABC claims that he's talked to one Dem Senator who says caving is near but that person won't give their name (Fetterman?) AND says D leadership (Schumer etc.) will vote against it. So who is caving, and leaking? Motivated rumor is not news - it's using reporters for propaganda. 4/

A word of caution about the new Axios report that Dem Senators are caving. Remember the NYT ran articles for months claiming that Harvard was caving, which.. never happened. Turns out their anonymous sources were Trump staffers. Axios may be similar. But, it never hurts to call your Senator. 1/

Rosalind Franklin died at 37 of ovarian cancer attributed to radiation exposure from the methods she & her assistant used to photograph a cross-section of the DNA double helix. Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

It's an argument for the status quo to remain unchanged and, aside from the moral vacuity of looking around at the world and saying everything is great actually, it's a terrible rhetorical position!

Evolutionary psychology makes a big to-do about their finding that sexual selection favors a "feminine body type" that "signals fertility/reproductive potential", including some rather... silly research. Turns out, those traits don't seem to signal reproductive success. Oops!

The press utterly silent about a clearly impaired elderly GOP president who cannot keep his eyes open. Lapdogs to the end. When Biden was still riding a bike, every article was "Why isn't our frail Dem president popping wheelies?"

An excellent question. The evidence shows pretty persuasively that many Black people don’t use these terms “liberal” or “conservative” in any context. They are terms that are simply not part of lots of people’s political or social lexicon.

what this means politically is that there is simply not a big cost to doing the right thing and standing up for trans people if you run a campaign based on affordability while supporting trans rights and your opponent runs a campaign based on transphobia, voters will prefer yours (see: Spanberger)

Regular reminder that Axios stories saying Dems are about to cave are likely sourced from GOP staffers trying to make it happen. Doesn't mean it definitely won't happen. But it's like those NYT stories that Harvard is considering caving (they haven't). The anonymous source was trying to manifest it.

I particularly hate the suggestion there's some sort of grand bargain in which trans rights are given up in exchange for _______. No one is offering such a thing. No one would change their vote to Dems after that. The argument exists solely to justify throwing trans people under the bus.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!
