The WWE main event scene is as stale as it's been since the late 90's. Same select guys on top, with others allowed to hover around them, but never truly break into their elite club. Rotten.

Roman Reigns and Liv Morgan won the Rumble matches - both were the betting favorites The closing fireworks display was probably the same cost as all the added fighter bonus payments introduced by the UFC this year

It's weird constantly seeing people who know better talk about how and why Anthem "bought TNA." They did not. They foreclosed on Impact Ventures when Dixie defaulted on Anthem's loans to TNA, giving them the company per the terms of the loan agreement.

If you're a TV/pop culture nerd, this Cynthia Littleton piece in Variety is a must-click: She's compiled dozens of vintage ads from the trade, hyping everything from Kukla, Fran & Ollie and Columbo to The Sopranos and Freaks and Geeks. This is the good stuff.

Since 2023, Keiji Muto in NOAH, Sting at AEW Revolution, and NJPW today for Tanahashi all absolutely crushed the retirement show. 3 incredible events. Just mind-boggling how WWE screwed it up for Goldberg & Cena.

Bobby Davis managing Gorilla Monsoon 🤼 The prototype of the wrestling manager, Davis very much patterned the slick, motormouth style that influenced the Heenans, Harts and Heymans of the wrestling world in later years and would be more well known, if not for a lack of footage. Ahead of his time.

Netflix as the lesser of two evils versus the Ellisons as the potential WBD buyers might distract from what is still an insanely miserable bit of corporate consolidation. A slophouse run by people with some of the most depressing outlooks on the future of film and TV.

The Triple H selfie thing is a really underrated aspects of why modern WWE is bad. Every debut or new champion has to get the lame endorsement from an overrated guy who sucks. Also feels like it’s actually about “take a look at MY booking” rather than the person themselves.

Since I have the relevant data, I did deep dive into the key part of the WON HOF candidacy of Kevin, Kerry, and David Von Erich as a unit: The gates WCCW drew in 1983. I went in w/o preconceived notions, and the results are...interesting. But there are question marks about how the criteria applies.

Since I actually have all of the relevant data for a key Observer Hall of Fame candidate, I should probably do this

One of my favorite post WWE interviews ever. You get the full scope of how much of a “dumb guy who thinks they’re smart” Black really is. The socks, saying Vince liked him and it wasn’t his call to release him, saying Heyman told him his issue is he’s “too smart and creative”. Beautiful shit.

You say that like it's weird for the most penny pinching version of WWE in its history to routinely sign women from Vince's 2/3rds life crisis era to Legends contracts where they get paid to do absolutely nothing for WWE

Numbered console generations were made up by a random Wikipedia user in 2004 in an attempt to standardize the "__ era game console" articles, and nobody ever corrected it. It's nonsense that no actual historian uses and you have permission to ignore it
