Instead of protecting Canadians from scams, Mark Carney’s Liberals are planning to develop a framework for stablecoins after crypto billionaires spent big to buy one in the United States. The government claims it will “benefit men and youth by improving prosperity and good governance.” 🫠

As a resident of the far north end, I would be very curious to know if there is a restrictive covenant on the Novalea/Duffus strip mall or the little complex at the corner of Willow and Agricola. Pretty sure those both used to include grocery stores. Maybe even both Sobeys or Sobeys-ownes brands?

Just in case you thought this was about trans athletes. This was solely about creating a fascist and racist gender bureaucracy over what constitutes being feminine enough to be considered a woman. They're targeting cis women who may be intersex and banning them from sport.

Guts and serotonin! One of my favourite combos to go on about! Did you know that antidepressants can be used to treat some digestive disorders (such aa visceral hypersensitivity) because there are so many serotonin receptors in our guts?

This is so interesting. Strikes me that HHS in the US is determined to frame hormone therapy (which is important and effective treatment for some people!) as the cure for bitches, crones, and scolds.

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart. If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

🛫 A striking white coloration makes this spiny skate (Bathyraja spinosissima) easy to spot. These active swimmers hover and glide well above the seafloor, while their relatives tend to stay close to the bottom. This species is especially common in rocky lava fields.

The best comment I’ve seen so far in response to Tim Houston’s latest Remembrance Day-related manufactured drama has been; “if the provincial government really wants to show they think Remembrance Day is important, they should finally recognize it as a statutory holiday in Nova Scotia”

I'm doing my best to get back into the habit of wearing masks on buses, in the grocery store, in the pharmacy, etc. -- anywhere people feeling under the weather (and there are lots of 'em!) are likely to drag themselves despite feeling cruddy.

When groups that collect royalties on behalf of writers & musicians try to churn up a moral panic around all/any copying and sharing (inc. educational copying & format shifts for disabled folks), it's worth remembering that (c) law is NOT a component of our social safety net.

Very frustrating to still see public campaigns like this from Delta PD telling kids to wear bright reflectors on their costumes and people to leave their bikes at home. The risk to pedestrians on Halloween comes from drivers, not cyclists.

I will admit that I wasn't aware that real-life families (not just TV/movie/book characters) used honourary aunt/uncle/cousin titles until I was in my 20s. And that's because I grew up in a *particularly* suspicious/insular white rural family that considered all but the closest relatives "outsiders"

I am very late coming across this thread, but in case anyone still wants to discuss: I attended this studio for a year when it first opened. None of the inside baseball justifies the tone in the video (did not see the sequels) but there IS a lot of inside baseball & some of it is really unfortunate.

As car-centric as cities like Toronto and Halifax are, I'm very grateful that they have major sports & entertainment venues nestled right into their downtown cores. It could be so much worse. (But it could also be better!!! *glares in bikelane*)
