Digging through photos of birds, and forgot about this one. He was too far away and beyond the limits of my lens, but a couple of pics came out ok. A Painted Bunting perched in Bullrush at the waters edge.

It's so easy to point out that he's wearing clothes from the little boys section of Kohls. Or that his pants crawl up his ass or his too-small shirt shows off his budding love handles. You don't have to insinuate that he's gay to use as an insult. That's pretty homophobic.

The day has come. As of this afternoon, the 4 little baby Phoebes my girlfriend and I have been watching grow up took their first flight and left behind an empty nest. The babies have fledged. Bittersweet moment for me and I hope Mama Phoebe hatches another clutch this season.

#Photography friends, I have a question! My current "file management" system for all my photos is dated folders in Windows. But as I shoot more, that won't work. Does anyone have recs on a good photo management program? I have editing covered, so it doesn't have to have that option.

Y'all, these baby Phoebes are adorable. They're getting ready to fly away and I'm going to miss these sweet little faces!

My girlfriend and I have watched a little Easter Phoebe build a nest and hatch eggs. Then it was tiny baby beaks poking up for her to feed. Now it's two little feathered babies about to fledge that sleep at the top of the nest. They grow up so fast!

We drive all over north Texas to go birding at wildlife refuges, state parks, and lakes. But my parents' front yard is honestly a great place for a new bird photographer.

Fast birds in flight are incredibly hard to photograph. But sometimes you get lucky and get a decent shot. Mississippi Kites are VERY fast birds!

Do I know any botanists, plant nerds, or flower experts that can look at this? I found something very odd when shooting pics of Indian Blanket (Gaillardia pulchella) blooms. A normal bloom, then a pic of a very major variation on petal structure I've never seen before. ALT text for more info

I was planning on just taking flower pics with a macro lens. Then it turned into an unexpected wildlife photo shoot! This Honeybee landed on a flower I was shooting, then I followed him to several other flowers for 20 minutes until he took off to his hive in the woods.

The girlfriend and I went camping with my parents and I'm going through shots I got. We weren't BIRDING™ this weekend, but we all had to take some bird and wildlife shots anyway. Here's a few as I go through the 937 pics I took this weekend.

One of the more interesting birds I got pics of this weekend is an Anhinga. A very large wading bird that is barely in its natural range here in north Texas. They tend to prefer more coastal and tropical climates. Aggressive fishers and will eat very big fish in one gulp.

My girlfriend and I went birding with my parents in east Texas Saturday. Met a biologist that worked at the WMA we were at, had a friendly chat, then he told us to follow him into the restricted areas. I took over 2000 pics, but here's a few I like.
