I was very grateful to be married to a mechanical engineer when I bought a used sewing machine on a whim, never having touched one before and having no idea how it worked… #quiltsky

I made this small quilt by hand on a whim earlier this summer. No experience quilting, just an old ikea sheet, five of my husband’s very old shirts, batting ordered online, and random thread. I caught the quilting bug, and a few days later I bought a used sewing machine! #modernquilting #quiltsky

My piece of advice when it comes to expensive yarn, especially if it's indie-dyed, is to understand what you're buying. Some of the prettiest, brightest, most variegated skeins are going to pool when you knit them. Tonals and speckles tend to work up nicer and have more versatility.
