This tragic but excellent article needs to be read by everyone throughout the country. The Republicans want to kill public ed. They are using state takeovers and charter school owning charlatans like Mike Miles (and his abusive NES) to do it. See at what they are stealing from our (soon your) kids!🧵

This is a thread for historians: Our most important use of our professional skills is informing the public of our shared past, especially at times like this. Human histories of the costs of Jim Crow, what this all means in accessible terms, it needs to get out. Resources and publication options:

I am unspeakably angry about this turnout gap figure, and it gives insight into the whole ballgame for gutting the VRA. Alito points out that Black turnout exceeded White turnout twice in 5 elections. The argument is garbage 1/x

Today is day 149 of the ICE occupation of MN. In impacted neighborhoods across the metro, you see these signs everywhere. We won’t forget what ICE has done here. And we won’t stop standing up for our neighbors.

I know we get inured to stuff, but it is hard to fathom the cruelty here. At a time of tax cuts for the most powerful, they are trying to remove basic supports for the most vulnerable. The Trump administration's war on people with disabilities continues.

By acquiescing to demands that we cede class time to tutorials in the use of commercial products we are stealing from our students the opportunity for advanced intellectual development in the subjects we were hired to teach and destroying the future of our fields embodied by those students.

The lesson that Austin children are learning from this is that the Texas state government hates their friends and wishes them harm. Which is not what a forward thinking government interested in long term self preservation would do.

Once again, on my high horse about adaptive testing: If your test does not show all students the same questions, it is not measuring all students on the same field--it is categorizing them, often inaccurately. Some students who miss "lower level questions" will do better on "higher level" ones!

I found the end particularly important: this is not inevitable! Already the "best" schools around the country do not utilize computers heavily, much less AI. Also: AI education will absolutely be the slop that is sold to public school districts and which will harm working class kids most of all

An excellent overview that peeks at one of the most evil and yet most banal parts of pushing AI adoption in education: the push for AI is the push to make money for corporate stakeholders. Full stop. It is evil. And like most ed "transformations" the idiots making it can't even imagine use cases
