I’ve been sick and watching Starfleet Academy. Which as far as I can tell is a show about Holly Hunter sitting awkwardly in chairs.

I also talk about @wadjeteyegames.bsky.social's awesome adventure game Unavowed in this episode, albeit to reference how the modern point and click genre is still impacted by design decisions made back in the early 1990s! (Don't worry, I'll talk modern adventures in a couple of weeks.)

Didn’t expect the ending of Old Skies to sucker punch me in the way it did. This is very much a story that keeps getting better as it moves on, concluding on a stellar high. It took me a while to warm to Fia, but as soon as you’ve connected with her emotional journey you don’t want to let go.

Time travel doesn’t only make for interesting puzzles, but it also allows @wadjeteyegames.bsky.social to take players on a historic tour of his beloved NYC. The highlight of this is a story set on the eve of 9/11 and the elegance with how that’s handled shows a storyteller at the top of his game.

Excuse you?! In this house we protect Crispin like the gift to robotkind, that he is. In some seriousness, it's always sad to see people not resonate with the game's themes or characters or art-style or music or setting, but that's also normal, and not everything is for everyone.

The fifth chapter of ✨ Old Skies ✨ touches on the untouchable nature of police corruption in post-9/11 NYPD. And so much more. Each chapter feels like a history buff’s love-letter to NYC. Plus, the game’s time-jumping puzzle-narrative threads needles brilliantly. ⭐️ Strong recommendation. ⭐️

Found some old screencaps showing a bug in Old Skies where characters’ heads would disappear for seemingly no reason. While annoying (and I did fix it eventually), it did make some bits of dialog unintentionally hysterical.

Well-deserved! Unavowed is a tremendously cool adventure about a team tracking down a demon who did unspeakable things using your player character's body. If you have never played this one, you should!

𝐎𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐞𝐬: It’s the new Wadjet Eye, with a fresh hi-res visual style that surprises at first but is actually quite nice; the trademark excellent writing hasn’t changed. A time travel story where you follow Fia guiding her « time tourist » clients through past and future eras of New York...

Old Skies was fun to play through. Honestly might be my favourite timetravel gameplay implementation. Insanely well done job on the voiceacting all around and the puzzles were fun to figure out, only used the ingame hint system a few times.
