Watched Eagle’s Nest tonight. The 4K restoration is excellent. It’s like watching it for the first time. Always had a soft spot for The New Avengers as the lingering impression is it’s an underdog. Series 1 is a high point for me. Crammed with British thesps having a whale of a time.

I never thought I’d see the day. Absolutely love this show. And I especially love The New Avengers that - through the 90s repeats - turned me on to Avengerland (later fuelled by the C4 Peel and King repeats and the movie). Could not be more thrilled.

THE NIGHTMARE MAN (BBC, 1981): Dr Who legend Robert Holmes adapted David Wiltshire's novel Child of Vodyanoi, in which a Scottish island is plagued by murders after a strange craft is found on the beach. Are they dealing with an alien predator or something far more tragic...?

The media industry keeps talking about linear TV is dead. Well of course it will be if you keep accelerating its decline by pushing people to streaming. It's not completely dead if there are programmes people want to watch.

My musical tribute to Pauline Collins who has died aged 85. She was brilliant and award-winning in the film Shirley Valentine. But I will always remember her as parlourmaid Sarah Moffit in the 1970s ITV drama Upstairs, Downstairs.
