LRP: In Germany we had VIVA, which was more pop-focused than MTV, but also very helpfully showed the name of the artist and song a second time shortly before the end of the video. I remember I made my first mixtape by recording songs off VIVA and sometimes forgot to stop the recording in time -

One of the foundational experiences that has now been lost forever with the demise of MTV is the exquisite pre-internet agony of discovering a song/band you really like but missing the crucial bit where the caption tells you what it was called and who they are.
