Normally, I share the earthquake itself, but since the region nearest the epicenter is "lightly populated", I want everyone to be aware of the tsunami possibilities. So if you are in a coastal area around the Pacific or Indian Oceans, please follow local instructions. 🧪

⚒️🧪 Tsunamis are caused by vertical movement on the ocean floor. Small ones can come from earthquakes that are big by human standards (˜M7), but when it's a big one even by earthquake standards--like today's M8.7 in Kamchatka--the tsunami will also be big. This could cause damage around the Pacific.

If you think it's a good night to go down to the beach and try your luck against the ocean tonight, don't. While tsunamis usually hit San Diego with the force of a wet kitten, don't test nature. DO NOT be on the coast tonight even down by the border. It's supposed to hit about 1:15 am. Be safe.
