The biggest myth is that you can't do it and it's impossible and if you tried it would be bad. You can start today. Get a free edition of RPG maker or start doing gamemaker studio tutorials. Get Articy and start playing with storyboarding. The only real barrier is that you are not doing it.

I might not have a VN release, but just from what I've played, I think more people in the indie VN space should read up on stagecraft, because the psychological association of things like what side a character enters the stage from or what side they stand can be pretty helpful and interesting.

So, as of earlier this year, I made pell.quest, I started gathering suggestions for visual novels, and started on a journey to see what works, what doesn't, and what I like in a VN and why. The best way to do that, for me, was to use my writing skills to write reviews!

When I started working on Geilt last year, it looked entirely different. It was a hybrid CRPG, it was inspired much more heavily by the works of Junji Ito (not that Geilt isn't now!), and it was also being made without real experience in the visual novel space overall. It was a worse project!

Right now, I'm working on an adventure VN named Geilt, which is set across Ireland. A lot of my largest influences for the project are The House in Fata Morgana, Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights, Chaos;Child, and the epic poem Buile Suibhne (from which the project got its name). #vndev #indiedev
