Hot take: the first prerequisite of a Jewish movement to replace Zionism is that it was not itself functionally wiped out as its core premises were spectacularly disproven.

As a diaspora Jew with a lot of Bundists, socialists & a Menshevik or two in my family line, my sympathies lie with the Bund. But I recognize it isn't really more than a wish or a memory since the gentiles LITERALLY LEFT THE BUND FOR DEAD IN MASS GRAVES. I don't see how we can come back from that.

I get the impulse to find an alternative path for the Diaspora, but the Bundists lost. Badly. And an awful lot of their followers died. And this whole idea that going back to Yiddish & the shtetl is the right path overlooks the fact that the Ashkenazi experience isn’t universal. We can do better.
