I don't think autism necessarily "gets worse" as you get older (though executive function sure can). I think it's more so that every failed interaction is another cut, until you're eventually just too traumatized to dare make another mistake. So many criticism of Neurodiversity rely on strawmen arguments about what neurodiversity is. People in the neurodiversity movement don't think it's "just quirks" nor do they think being neurodivergent is incompatible with having real, measurable difficulties they would like to not have.
