Cleat Cute — Multnomah County Library
Cleat Cute — Wilsner, Meryl, — "A sapphic rivals to lovers rom com for fans of Ted Lasso and A League of Their Own, where two soccer teammates are at odds before falling in love as their team gears up for the World Cup. Grace Henderson has been a star of the US Women's National Team for ten years, even though she's only 26. But when she's sidelined with an injury, a bold new upstart, Phoebe Matthews, takes her spot. 22-year-old Phoebe is everything Grace isn't--a gregarious jokester who plays with a joy that Grace lost somewhere along the way. The last thing Grace expects is to become teammates with benefits with this class clown she sees as her rival. Phoebe Matthews is too focused on her first season as a professional soccer player to think about seducing her longtime idol. But when Grace ends up making the first move, they can't keep their hands off of each other. As the World Cup approaches and Grace works her way back from injury, a miscommunication leaves the women with hilariously different perspectives on their relationship. But they're on the same page on the field, realizing they can play together instead of vying for the same position. With every tackle the tension between them grows, and both players soon have to decide what's more important-being together or making the roster. The perfect blend of funny and steamy, Meryl Wilsner's Cleat Cute is about being brave enough to win on and off the field"--

Stop pre-negotiating. Stop telling voters they have to sacrifice minorities and the marginalized to have a chance of winning. Stop telling voters to settle, to not ask for everything, to be reasonable. Don't be reasonable. Demand the world. The world belongs to us. They don't have more right to it.

The reason you can’t give a single inch on anything be it trans rights or dignity for unhoused people is that they, democrats and republicans alike, will take it and say thanks what else is in your pockets? They won’t say thanks actually.

I worked up a little newsletter piece about how basic writercraft is rapidly becoming a thing of the romance publishing past—and how it's a past I'm very glad I was a part of. I also touch on how fanfic ties in.

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.

People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.

I 100% agree and would add that if you are hosting a holiday event and you do NOT have something festive, creative and delicious for your guests to drink without alcohol in it, you are actually an asshole don't make them drink tap water while everyone else has bespoke cocktails!

Actually the question that occurs to me is "will you nominate him anyway even after years of people telling you they won't vote for him if you do, and then when you lose as you were warned you would, will you blame not yourselves but the people who warned you."

Also: if you work for ICE, even if you’re not one of the ones arresting citizens or tackling 15-year-olds or zip-tying kids together and segregating them by race, you’re part of the mechanism making it happen, and you should suffer long-term social and post-regime-change consequences.

Authors in Conversation: Camille Kellogg and Susie Dumond
Today on the site I'm delighted to welcome Sapphic Romance authors Camille Kellogg and Susie Dumond, whose newest releases (The Next Chapter and Bed and Breakup, respectively) both release this month! Here's a little bit about each book, as told by the authors: Bed and Breakup by Susie Dumond is a second-chance romance about two ex-wives who fell in love while renovating a historic inn in a quirky spa town in the Ozarks.

I saw someone say AI is useful because it generates ideas. My dude, I'm full of ideas. I have docs and docs marked under 'ideas.' I have outlines and fragments of stuff I might work on. Trunked stories galore. Even if I continue to write a novel a year for the next 40 years I won't run out of ideas.

Also reminder to romance authors that we only shoot ourselves in the foot if we try to play the "but we're not porn" game. Those of us who write hot/queer already get clipped on a regular basis, but nothing is "respectable" enough. Your turn WILL come.
