This is true facts. Mental health issues and other forms of neurodiversity are disabilities! I've had to tell way too many fellow autists that they were disabled by virtue of being autistic. Just because your disability isn't physical and visible doesn't mean you're not disabled!!!

I can echo this with the parallel of "transed gay man" and the underlying argument that we would all be not only better off cis, but that we fundamentally belong to a cis community that we were "stolen" from. It's a very possessive narrative, isn't it.

yeah being a gay trans man, I've had MANY people suggest that I was a waste of a straight woman, and I've seen straight trans men referred to as lost lesbians. it's like being blamed for robbing someone of the girlfriend we could have been. as if some unknown "other" has more claim to us than we do.

It may be true that you are actually suicidal--and if you are, please seek help immediately. But threatening to kill yourself in public because people talk about your behavior is *also* a harm done to a community.

But I do want to register two things. First, if you need help, PLEASE seek help. The internet at large is not help; the internet is often harm. Second, it is a form of community abuse to threaten to publicly commit suicide in situations where people are asking you to take accountability.

So much can be said about the alienation of women from our own sexualities and how that happens even for straight women, but I don't see the value in pinning that on some kind of queer evacuation or "feminism doesn't let women be horny."

A social movement that burns us out as the default cultural paradigm is a social movement that will never bring about the world we need. At best, it will only replace dominator culture with a different form of domination.

What I take issue the most about this article is its framing of the problem as coming from feminism or queer trends, as if these are why female sexuality itself is rendered inert and passive. The real origin of this problem is much deeper, older, because it's baked into patriarchy.

The irony of this article is that it expresses feelings that make a strong response to its own suppositions. Female heterosexuality is conditioned with a kind of built-in frustration, because while male heterosexuality gets to be about desire, female heterosexuality is about OBLIGATION.

Every time I see another article about "why it's okay to like men" or somesuch, I get even madder on behalf of my straight girl friends. They KNOW it's okay to like men - they just don't like THESE men, these insane conservative neo-nazi men who want to treat them like subhuman objects.

I would prob be homeless If not for my mom dying, it is so so hard to find work as a trans person not to mention we’re all disabled.

This is an especially good point because I can speak from experience to the way poverty + fragility of means and employment can make "outness" and transition itself very complex things that don't always have clear-cut lines. I wish that were better understood!

I would like to see work that really takes seriously the way transness creates a class milieu—by which I mean trans people tend to end up connected to underground economy and economic oppression pretty easily even if they start from a higher class position.

Like apparently is theory is that being closeted for is indicative of (white) privilege or a desire to preserve it, which doesn't engage at all with the well-documented history of trans people of all classes who've had to closet in some circumstances and could be out in others.
