Following research into tram and cycle safety on Princes Street, I wanted to share snaps into three eras of historical use. Cable trams came to Edinburgh in 1888, at the same time as the safety bicycle. They were removed in 1956, as the popularity of the private motor car overtook the bicycle. [1/4]

Recently I submitted a FOI request for Dean Bridge, after seeing concerns that it could not take the weight of a tram. Trams are around 60 tons, but the heaviest vehicles on our roads are abnormal loads. For example, North Bridge is being refurbished for a vehicle weight of 150 tons. [1/3]
