Elm Row is just a car-centric mess now. Could have been one of the nicest bits of public realm in Edinburgh.

As a few folk have asked about the access / parking situation on Elm Row, I understand bollards should be installed on the crossing build-out behind the bus stops to protect pedestrian space. I have asked about potentially returning bollards to the side of the cycle lane.

Since when did parking on zig zags become socially - and legally - acceptable? A complete lack of enforcement here on Commercial Street, mirrored across Edinburgh.

Just in: Voi is increasing its Edinburgh cycle hire trial scheme from 50 bikes to 340 bikes. So far 5,800 riders have clocked up 60,000km across 21,700 trips since September. Boundary will expand on Friday 31/10 to include Holyrood Park, Meadowbank, Bonnington, Leith + Newhaven.

Hello @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social. I'm sure you are aware but there are still a number of trees down on the NEPN - a particularly dangerous one is edging over on the Ferry Road Path. Adds some adrenaline to my runs but I'd rather not get squished.

Slightly baffled that the council has already integrated Elm Row-style pavement parking into their design for what's supposed to be a public space. It's going to be chaos without any bollards. That pram's going to get runover by a double-cab pickup truck.

Hello @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social - the temp lights at the top of Regent Road don't allow enough time for uphill cyclists to get through the traffic phase, leading to an awkward standoff with an apologetic bus driver. Could you have it adjusted?

I'm a regular runner and cyclist on the Blackhall Path. There is an ongoing issue with balaclava-clad individuals zipping about on e-motorcycles. The police have been great with foot patrols but we really need them on bikes (including motorbikes) to deter this kind of thing.

Police Scotland latest stats are out and still not managing to break that magical 10 per day mark for mobile phone offences. Pretty sure you could go to any fairly busy junction in Edinburgh and catch more than 10 in an hour.

It seems quite reasonable to insist on a few million for 50 metres of embankment and a bridge to maintain 3m width, when the alternative (Orchard Brae) is a route that is much, much, much worse for operation of the trams and £320M more expensive

This is a positive response from the trams team - but it does not bode well that it was needed in the first place. I can accept the Roseburn Path option but only on the strict condition that the path is at least 3m wide throughout and the route marked in blue is implemented.

The Russell Rd diversion is a joke. Making cyclists go down a zig zag across a side road with no priority then back up a zig zag hill must be from people that hate cyclists and never cycle. Too scared to build a bridge?

The 2007 planning application included a cycleway over the bridge, connecting to Balbirnie Pl and Russel Rd similar to what we have now.

This is the biggest problem with the Roseburn Path proposal - it looks like cyclists will be diverted to a crossing on the A8 and a convoluted route towards Fountainbridge. Red = the proposal as I interpret it Blue = what should be built If this is resolved then I think I *could* support it.

The cycle lane on Leith Walk, Edinburgh, set an all time record of 2,147 cyclists on Wednesday, 13th August 2025. Overall growth in the number of cyclists has slowed this year, likely a result of displacememnt to the new CCWEL cycle lane at York Place.

It's been a terrible week for cycling in Edinburgh. I think that's now three collisions in the news? This on Montrose Terrace, Nicolson Street, and on Dublin Street. Of course, Edinburgh Live consistently names inanimate cars as being involved.

Forced into carriageway by a HGV driver... and then subsequently bullied off the road by a bus driver (who I caught up with anyway). I can't use the cycle lane if there's a HGV parked on it! Happily, this kind of behaviour hasn't put too many people off - need a cycle lane up Leith Street ASAP.

Edinburgh driving standards have collapsed in the last week: - two red lights - one zebra - Aggressive Lothian Bus driver - oncoming close pass at choke point - coaches parked on pavements - cutting corners at junctions - motorbikes in bike boxes Roads policing needs to target August.

Lost my @passpixi.bsky.social and the change in driver behaviour on my commute was immediate and quite startling. Two close passes and a van driver blasting his horn at me while I was stationary at a advanced stop line (bike box). Anecdotal evidence but I'm 90% sure it's highly effective.

Note that the west end of the Ferry Road Path, where it joins the Telford Path at Crewe Toll, is currently closed with no signposted diversions. Yet again a group of police officers are standing guard all night giving directions to confused cyclists - including me.

Leith Walk cycle lane solstice update: around 3% year-on-year growth in cycle journeys this year. A significant slowing in growth compared with 2024, which was 57% higher than 2023 by this time in the year. The busiest day was 13th May with 2,056 cyclists; 260,000 cycle journeys so far in total.
