The reporter to the Catholic church representing at the summit, Dale O'Leary, came away really shocked about it, wrote a book called The Gender Agenda published in 1997, which then had a snowball of panic in the church under conservative pope John Paul II, and massively expanding under Benedict XIV.

So while the original anti-gender movement was as much about abortion as it was about sexuality and gender identity, in the broad English speaking Left, transgender people became the most salient targets for the focus of the Anti-Gender movement, and a way of splitting cisgender feminist resistance.
