By rendering ἀκοή as “proclamation” rather than “hearing,” Martyn shifts the emphasis from a cognitive act (e.g., receptive hearing) to the invasive, prior act of God in the preaching event itself. So faith is not something you bring to the gospel; it is something the gospel creates in you.

Martyn’s translation of Galatians 3:5 “When God even now supplies the Spirit to you, and when he works wonders in the midst of your communities, is he doing those things because you observe the Law, or is he doing them through the proclamation that elicits your faith?“

A decade ago, when Trump one the first time, I and other Black writers tried to make us see that racism — both explicit and deeply seeded — was at the root of Trump’s rise. We were dismissed even as late as last year as people attributed economic anxieties to Trump’s wins. DO YOU BELIEVE US NOW?

The whole “loving your enemies” commandment is feeling impossible in a way I have never experienced previously. And trust me, it’s never felt like a cake walk. Only supernatural love can accomplish this, I’m completely convinced.

I don't really know how anyone still on twitter justifies it to themselves. I realize individual use of that site is such a small thing in the grand scheme of things but it also strikes me as such a low moral bar to clear - why would you not just clear it?
