Turns out EYES WIDE SHUT (1999) is a true story. Not idle speculation or merely Kubrickian paranoia. That movie is about the catastrophic damage that happens when one merely 'brushes up against' the powerful. It's a terrible and ugly truth and we must face it collectively and courageously.

What's the use of democracy if the media is allowed to lie to the public and therefore influence their voting? We have churches that do not pay taxes directly influencing people's votes. And this is what democracy is. It's bullshit. It doesn't work like we're supposed to believe.

Good news this morning: inflation fell to 3.0% in January, down from 3.4% in December. This was in line with expectations, with the Bank of England last month suggesting it will continue to fall in future months towards the 2% target - perhaps as soon as April.

DNA testing for potential to develop health conditions is sinister. It's an attempt to quantify the risk for individual patients. But health advice is the same whatever your risk so knowing risk is no use to doctors or patients. One industry that relies on understanding risk though is insurance.
