The deep incuriosity of many STEM folks never fails to amaze me, this sort of thought is exactly what lead to so much of the turmoil in the world right now. History isn't over, "logic" is an ideological tool that can be controlled, and its this very incuriosity that allows it.

Mad respect to Andy Weir as a storyteller but... I've read all 3 of his published books and they ALL contain social commentary whether he realizes he put it in there or not. It is extremely difficult, and in most cases not even WORTH it, to write a story that doesn't comment on social issues.

"I dislike social commentary." So, no Heinlein, no H.G. Wells, no Mary Shelley, no Joe Haldeman, no Ursula K. LeGuin, no Arthur C. Clarke, no Ray Bradbury, no Philip K. Dick, no Neil Stephenson, no William Gibson. Does Andy Weir actually read ANY classic science fiction?

I read and watched Project Hail Mary, really liked it. I saw a lot in it over time and appreciated its ideas, and here the author just says "no, you're not meant to, just clap when the spaceman does spaceman things, *I have no point to make*" so I guess I was a dumby for thinking so.

Why is Weir watching Star Trek for the battles? Like the whole point of Star Trek is the fucking commentary and characters. Even the Dominion War's battles were all about the commentary of the Dominion and Federation.
