As a graduate of HKS last year, I saw my fellow students stop engaging in anything political because of fear of doxing or being rounded up by ICE. I never saw students fearful of disagreeing with a professor on a controversial issue. I usually saw faculty bend over backwards to appear neutral.

Speaking with the president is not the same as getting newsworthy information from the president. And Trump's dishonesty can often lead to unhelpful "Trump said" articles, in which what he says is centered, rather than the truth. I suspect it also leads to the excessive emphasis on Trump's moods.

What’s most disappointing in reading this is the active role of the NYT science desk in spreading transphobic disinformation. Really shameful what Azeen Ghoryashi (used to respect her for covering sexual harassment in science) and Virginia Hughes did to twist science for their anti-trans campaign.
