i know it's trite but: most science fiction is not trying to predict the future. i keep seeing people stumbling over this. "well, it wouldn't be plausible to have--" okay but maybe the author wasn't trying for "plausible." usually they aren't. what other goals might the author have had?

Been struggling to come up with a title for the book I've almost "finished", and in the process accidentally thought of something perfect for a later entry that's years away. Writing was a mistake. Not my pursuit of it, I mean the concept as a whole. Should be illegal.

I swear it's like a cheat code, doesn't matter what it is you're writing. Grammatical oddities, character voice inconsistencies, tonal or perspective whiplash...something about just reading it aloud as if you were reading it off to a buddy across the room makes problems jump out at you.
